 TROPICAL BLISS

"A breathtaking landscape painted by vast green foilage of the world-famous rice terraces"

At the heart of the Indonesian archipelago lies a tropical paradise that feels almost too perfect to be real—Bali. I had the chance to visit this stunning island in the summer of 2019, where I spent a week soaking in both its vibrant coastal charm and its serene, green interior. I planned my itinerary to capture the best of both worlds: four sun-drenched days in Nusa Dua, followed by three soothing ones in Ubud.

In Nusa Dua, I stayed at a resort that felt like a postcard brought to life. The entrance welcomed me with traditional Balinese architecture—ornate archways carved with local motifs, and cozy, hut-style villas that blended beautifully with the lush surroundings. Mornings began with tropical breakfasts brimming with fresh fruit, which I’d enjoy just before diving into the pool. I couldn’t resist trying the local water sports too, but the highlight by far was sea walking—an unforgettable experience strolling along the ocean floor, surrounded by schools of shimmering Indo-Pacific sergeant majors. Evenings were also pure magic - I’d savour fresh seafood right on the beach while watching the sun melt into the horizon.

After three blissful days, I swapped Nusa’s sandy shores for Ubud’s emerald landscapes—because, after all, balance is everything. I checked into Bisma Eight, a beautiful boutique hotel tucked right in the heart of town. From there, I explored some of Ubud’s most iconic spots: the cascading Tegenungan Waterfall, the intricately carved Ubud Water Palace, and the mystical Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. Local markets also buzzed with life—stalls overflowed with handcrafted jewelry, ethnic fashion, and vibrant textiles. Ubud’s culinary scene was equally rich, and I couldn’t get enough of Nasi Goreng and the spicy Mi Goreng noodles.

But nothing prepared me for the Tegalalang Rice Terraces. I’d never seen so many shades of green in one place. This UNESCO World Heritage site was simply breathtaking. As I walked along the narrow paths of the terraced hills, I could feel a connection to the land and its centuries-old traditions. It was a moment of quiet awe—something I’ll carry with me forever.
